This small gastropod was found embedded within limestone in what I now call my limestone pile. As I collect limestone from the surrounding hillsides, The pieces I can carry end up here. There are over 62,000 species of gastropods, and they first appear during the early Cambrian period of time.
The specimen is mostly a steinkern, with a small bit of shell material attached. The body whorl which continues to the back side is pretty large and extends a bit wider than the front. Measuring about 6mm wide, this specimen is tiny, but a large size for most gastropods in local rocks. It is not nearly as large as the biggest gastropod I have found so far.
When shearing off rock, I noticed the back portion had a fine crack running through it. I will continue to remove this from the matrix once I have a strategy for gluing it back together.
