It is a fossil something, but I am not sure what it is. I’ve stumped the few people I have shown so far. It has the familiar look of Calamites, but does not have the nodes. It was also embedded within limestone, which I do not find any plant fossils in locally. It’s certainly possible, but to date I have yet to find any. The piece of limestone sheared easily along this plane. There is a loose packed material in the valleys. It is dark to brown in color, with a root like pattern of white throughout.
To left has a band of the dark to brown material. This can easily be lifted off and disintegrates readily. With US ruler for scale. Opposite portion of the rock. US quarter for scale. Wet sample, showing find groves that resemble Calamites. Alternative lighting to show contrast. Microscopic view of groves, with what appears to be a circle shape in the center. With micro tweezers for scale With 1/2 mm rules. Bottom center shows white vein material. Middle shows dark coal like material. Better view of the white roots/veins. Microscopic view of roots/veins. This material crumbles under pressure. Close up of groves. Valley in bottom left shows coal like material with white veins. This can easily be scraped away. Non zoomed view. Table squares are in inches. Close up of coal like material with white veins. Zoomed out view. Woody appearance. Material is no more than 1/2 inch thick on the rock. Another valley view. Valley view with 1/2mm ruler.
